Team Chat
Internal chat with direct messages, group chats, and chats linked to projects, opportunities and finance records
Team Chat
Team Chat is the internal messaging feature of the platform, available under Chats in the sidebar, next to the notification bell and your own avatar. All conversations are internal to your organisation; clients never see them.
Chats open in a panel docked to the bottom-right corner of the screen, so you keep working on the page you were on. Click Chats again to close the panel; it reopens on the conversation you had last.
Conversation types
- Direct chats: one-on-one conversations with a colleague. Starting a chat with the same person twice always reopens the existing conversation.
- Group chats: named conversations with any number of colleagues. Participants can invite others; membership is invite-based.
- Entity chats: conversations linked to a record: a construction project, a CRM opportunity, or a finance document (invoice, estimate, purchase order). They are created from the record's page with the Chat button and are open for any colleague to join.
Starting a chat
- Click Chats in the sidebar to open the chat panel.
- Click the new-chat button at the top of the conversation list.
- Choose Direct and pick a colleague, or Group, give it a name, and pick the participants.
To start (or open) a chat about a specific record, use the Chat button on the project editor, opportunity page, invoice, estimate, or purchase order. The panel opens straight away on that record and you can start typing immediately; if a chat already exists for the record you join it, otherwise it is created while you type. From the chat, the linked record is one click away via the link icon in the header, and the arrows icon opens the conversation full-screen on the Chats page.
Messages
- Rich text: messages support bold, italic, underline, strikethrough, code, and lists. Press Enter to send, Shift+Enter for a new line.
- Images: attach photos with the image button; they are shown inline in the conversation.
- Voice notes: record a voice message with the microphone button (click to start, click again to stop) and send it as a playable audio clip.
- Your own messages can be deleted; deleted messages leave a small tombstone in the thread.
Notifications and unread state
- Unread counts are shown per conversation and the list is ordered by most recent activity. Opening a conversation marks it as read.
- New messages trigger a push notification on the mobile app for every participant except the sender.
- Use Mute notifications in the conversation menu to stop pushes for a busy chat; the unread badge still updates.
Real-time behaviour
Messages, edits, and typing indicators arrive live over a WebSocket connection. If the connection drops, the app falls back to periodic refreshing and reconnects automatically.
