Real-World Surroundings
Show the actual neighborhood around a house in the 3D configurator using Dutch open data
Real-World Surroundings (Omgeving)
By default the 3D configurator shows the house on an empty stylized lawn. With the Omgeving toggle, buyers can place the house in its real neighborhood: the actual surrounding buildings, an aerial photo of the ground, and the real trees in the area.
What it shows
| Layer | Source | Detail |
|---|---|---|
| Surrounding buildings | 3DBAG (TU Delft) | Real 3D building shapes incl. roofs (LoD 2.2), streamed around the project |
| Ground | PDOK luchtfoto | Latest high-resolution aerial photo (~8 cm), 600×600 m around the house |
| Trees | BGT (Kadaster) | Registered tree positions, rendered as stylized trees |
The sun position and shadows also use the project's actual location, so the light in the viewer matches reality for the chosen date and time.
Enabling it
- Open the buyer configurator (atmosphere viewer) for a house.
- In the bottom toolbar, click the Omgeving button (buildings icon), next to the Kavel and Buren toggles. It turns green when active.
- The aerial photo and trees appear immediately; surrounding buildings stream in over a few seconds.
Click the button again to return to the clean, empty presentation.
Requirements
- The project must have a location (coordinate). Set it on the project settings page; without a location the Omgeving button is hidden entirely.
- The building that currently stands at the project location (if any) is automatically hidden so it does not clash with the configured house.
Notes
- All data is Dutch open data; an attribution line ("© 3DBAG · Beeldmateriaal.nl · Kadaster/PDOK") is shown while the layer is active, which is required by the CC BY 4.0 licenses.
- The surroundings are anchored on the project coordinate. For projects that span a large area, the environment can be offset up to the project's size for individual houses.
- New-build neighborhoods may look emptier than reality: 3DBAG and the BGT only contain what has been surveyed, so houses and trees that don't exist yet (or were built very recently) won't appear.
