Design realistic facades with parametric kozijnen, deuren, spekbanden and masonry-grid snapping, then stamp them onto houses in the project viewer, with per-house deviations for fast welstand iteration

Gevelconfigurator

The gevelconfigurator lets you compose a facade on a blank wall from kozijnen (window frames), deuren, raamdorpels, rollagen, spekbanden and lateien, and stamp that composition onto compatible houses in the project viewer. Because a facade configuration is formula-driven, the same design adapts automatically to houses of different widths and floor counts. The goal is fast iteration on facade styles for welstand approval and early cost insight.

The module lives under Construction → Facade Configurations (with Facade Restrictions alongside it) and requires configurator permissions.

Facade configurations

A facade configuration is a named composition of elements for one side of a house (front or back). Each element has:

  • a type: window, door, sill (vensterbank), rollaag, dorpel, spekband, latei, pattern or a product-linked facade element;
  • bounds written as formulas over house variables (e.g. <house_width> - 1400), so the layout follows the house dimensions;
  • an optional parametric spec describing how the element looks (see below);
  • optionally a linked product for cost rollup and a material mapping.

Parametric kozijnen and deuren

Windows and doors are generated parametrically, with no imported 3D models. The spec covers:

  • Profile series: kunststof 76 mm (K-Vision-like, 120 mm frame depth), hout 67×114 (KVT) or slank aluminium. The series drives real profile proportions: frame face widths, sash dimensions, glaslat insets and roede widths.
  • Vakverdeling: split the kozijn into vakken with tussenstijlen and an optional bovenlicht (tussendorpel).
  • Draairichting per vak: vast glas, draaikiep, draai, kiep, valraam or schuif, with hinge side. Opening panes get a sash ring and NEN-style draairichting glyphs on the glass (visible in draft mode).
  • Roedes: a glazing-bar grid per pane for a landelijke look.
  • Colors: frame, sash and door-panel colors from a standard RAL palette (9016 verkeerswit, 9001 crèmewit, 7016 antracietgrijs, 6009 dennengroen, …).
  • Negge: the reveal depth, which automatically selects the raamdorpel depth from the standard series (105/130/160/180/215 mm).
  • Door style: dicht, half glas or glas, with threshold and hardware.

Pattern areas (spekbanden, rollagen, patroonvlakken)

Spekband, rollaag and patroon elements render as real masonry areas with their own steenkleur, voegkleur and verband: halfsteens, kruis, blok, wild or staand (upright bricks, the rollaag default). Two extra controls make them expressive:

  • Signaal: an on/off pattern like 1001 applied per strek module (220 mm), repeating across the band. This turns a solid spekband into blocks, dashes or rhythmic accents.
  • Zijkanten: per side, the band either stopt at its bounds or loopt door past the wall edge, suggesting it wraps around the corner.

Metselwerk & grid visualization

The editor wall renders as brickwork in the chosen verband (toggle Toon metselwerk), floor lines are drawn high-contrast on top, and Toon grid (1m) overlays a one-meter reference grid with axis labels.

Wildverband follows the KNB Infoblad 32 richtlijnen: strekken, drieklezoren en koppen op een klezoor-grid, stootvoegen van opeenvolgende lagen verspringen minimaal een klezoor, vallende en staande tanden blijven beperkt tot 6 lagen, en er staan nooit meer dan 5 strekken of 3 koppen naast elkaar.

The wall's appearance (verband, steenkleur, voegkleur, accentsteen/accent %, reliëf % and wall texture) is saved on the facade configuration itself, so a stamped house in the project viewer shows the same masonry as the editor.

Render quality

The Render toggle switches the editor to a realistic preview:

  • Masonry is generated as a full PBR material: the voegen are genuinely recessed (normal map), bricks get rounded shoulders, per-brick shade variation and surface grain, and mortar is rougher than brick.
  • The wall is built as a real spouwmuur following NL nieuwbouw practice: metselwerk buitenblad, open luchtspouw, isolatie and a binnenblad with white pleisterwerk on the inside; orbit around the facade and the layers show in the section and reveals, while window and door openings get an interior aftimmering.
  • Behind the facade a casco interior is modelled: kalkzandsteen walls, betonnen verdiepingsvloeren, visgraat parket on the begane grond and a ceiling fixture per verdieping.
  • Glass becomes reflective and translucent with a subtle float-glass ripple, showing sky reflections over the interior.
  • A shadow-casting sun, sky backdrop and ground plane complete the elevation view; kozijnen, spekbanden and raamdorpels cast real shadows on the masonry.
  • The dag/nacht toggle next to the Render switch turns the scene to night: buitenlampen and the interior ceiling lights come on and windows glow.

Doors are modelled as NL voordeuren: verticale glasstrook, deurklink met cilinderslot, brievenbus, and a bel + huisnummerplaat on the wall beside the door (the number comes from digits in the element name, default 7). Dragging an element can run past the wall edge without getting stuck, and double-clicking a resize handle snaps that edge flush to the wall, handy for spekbanden that should run corner to corner.

AI-assisted design & JSON exchange

From the elements panel you can download the configuration as JSON, import JSON (replacing the current elements), and copy an AI prompt: a ready-made prompt containing the element schema, house dimensions and current configuration. Paste it into an LLM (e.g. ChatGPT) together with a photo of a facade you want to imitate; the returned JSON imports straight back into the editor.

Masonry-grid snapping

Facades read as "right" to a welstandscommissie when openings land on the brick module. The editor snaps drawing, dragging and resizing to the metselwerk grid by default: horizontally to the koppenmaat (110 mm) and vertically to the lagenmaat (62.5 mm, waalformaat). Other grids (waalformaat 210 mm, modulair 240 mm) or no snapping can be selected per configuration.

Presets

The preset palette inserts ready-made elements at standard NL maatvoering: vast raam, draaikiepraam, 2-vaks raam, raam met bovenlicht, roederaam, schuifpui, voordeur en achterdeur op standaard deurmaten (830/880/930 × 2315 mm), spekband and rollaag. Presets are centered on the facade and snapped to the brick grid; adjust position and spec afterwards.

Restrictions

A configuration can link a facade restriction: a set of drawn no-go zones (e.g. where inner walls or installations prevent sparingen). The editor overlays these zones so you design around them.

Stamping facades in the project viewer

In the project design viewer (facade display mode), the Facade Stamp panel lists configurations for the chosen side (front/back):

  1. Select a configuration and click houses to stamp it, or use Stamp entire block to apply it to every house in the selected block.
  2. Each house resolves the configuration with its own variables, so a 5.4 m tussenwoning and a 6.6 m hoekwoning get the same style at their own dimensions.
  3. Mirrored houses mirror the facade automatically.

Per-house deviations

A stamped house can deviate from the base configuration without breaking the link. With a house selected, the House deviations section lets you:

  • hide individual base elements on this house (e.g. drop a window where a neighbour's extension sits);
  • recolor kozijnen or the front door per house;
  • reset all deviations to return to the base configuration.

Deviations are applied at resolve time, so later changes to the base configuration still flow through to every stamped house.

Comparing variants and costs

In the Facade Configurations overview, select two or three configurations and click Compare. The comparison shows the variants side by side on the same house dimensions (adjustable width and floor count) with a cost rollup from the linked products, useful for choosing a direction before submitting to welstand.

Tips

  • Keep element X/width formulas in koppenmaat multiples and Y/height in lagenmaat multiples; the default snap grid does this for you.
  • Use <house_width> in formulas for anything that should follow the beukmaat (e.g. centered elements: (<house_width> - 1100) / 2).
  • Link products to windows and doors early: the compare view and cost rollup only price linked elements.
