Rename Group
Renaming Revit model groups to match Alpha product type names
Rename Group
The Rename Group tool lets you rename a selected Revit model group to match an Alpha product type name. This ensures that group names align with the Alpha platform's naming conventions, which is required for correct type coverage mapping.
Why Rename Groups?
The Alpha platform identifies model groups by name when matching them to product types. If a Revit group name does not match any product name, the export cannot be linked to the correct type coverage. Renaming ensures:
- Exported models are correctly associated with product types
- The Missing Coverage view accurately reflects which types still need models
- Consistent naming across the Revit model and the Alpha platform
How to Use
- Select a model group in the Revit viewport
- Click Rename Group in the Tools panel of the Alpha ribbon
- A dialog opens showing the current group name and a list of available product names
- Select the target product name from the list
- Click Rename to apply
Dialog Features
- Type selector — Choose which Alpha product type to load names from. The type configured in Settings is selected by default.
- Search — Filter the product name list by typing in the search box
- Product name list — Shows all product names for the selected type, ordered alphabetically
Requirements
- You must have a valid API key configured in Settings
- A Type ID must be configured (or select a type in the dialog)
- Exactly one model group must be selected in the Revit viewport
What Happens
When you confirm the rename:
- The add-in creates a Revit transaction
- The group type's name is changed to the selected product name
- All instances of that group type are updated automatically
The rename is a standard Revit operation and can be undone with Ctrl+Z.
